Delegation of the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia visited the Mariinsky Palace

Speaker of the St. Petersburg Parliament Alexander Belsky met with a delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Namibia. Leevi Katoma, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security of the Legislature, headed the delegation of the African state.
The meeting was held within the framework of the Economic and Humanitarian Forum, announced in the program of the second Russia-Africa Summit. The event was also attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg Nikolay Bondarenko, Deputy Representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation in St. Petersburg Sergey Chernyshev, Honorary Consul of the Republic of Namibia in St. Petersburg Albert Beyneshev.

Opening the dialogue, Alexander Belsky thanked the people of Namibia, who warmly welcome Russian and St. Petersburg tourists and representatives of the business community, noted the clearly defined position of the African state regarding the sanctions imposed by Western countries against Russia.
“Quite recently, in March 2023 in Moscow, Chairwoman of the Federation Council Valentina Matviyenko met with a delegation of the National Council of the Republic of Namibia headed by its Chairperson Lucas Sinimbo Mucha. A cooperation agreement was signed. This opens up additional opportunities and sets the vector for interaction between both national and regional parliaments of our countries. We want to build trusting relationships, including with the help of people’s diplomacy, in order to jointly develop the tourism, cultural, and sports fields” Alexander Belsky said.
Leevi Katoma thanked the speaker of the St. Petersburg Parliament for his hospitality and introduced the members of the Namibian delegation. During the talks, the parties discussed issues of inter-parliamentary cooperation.
St. Petersburg is hosting guests and participants of the Second Russia-Africa Summit, which starts on July 27. In parallel with it, economic and humanitarian forums were organized in the Northern capital. The Legislative Assembly of St. Petersburg supported the agenda of the international event. The Mariinsky Palace opened the doors to the thematic exposition “Africa in Painting”, the Chairman of the St. Petersburg Parliament Alexander Belsky held a working meeting with the delegation of the Gauteng Province of the Republic of South Africa, headed by the Chairman of the Committees of the Legislative Assembly of Gauteng Nkosi-Malobane Szakele.

with Vice President of Namibia

The Honorary Consul of the Republic of Namibia in the Leningrad Region, Albert Beyneshev, welcomes the Vice President of the Republic of Namibia during a sightseeing tour of St. Petersburg. His Excellency Nangolo Mbumba, a well-known Namibian politician, has held the position of Vice-President of the Republic of Namibia since 2018. The Vice President heads the delegation of Namibia at the Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, held in St. Petersburg on July 27-28. The delegation of Namibia consists of more than 80 people. It includes heads of various ministries and departments of the country, among them: Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of International Relations and Co-operation, Secretary General of the SWAPO Party, parliamentarians, diplomats and business representatives.
The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Namibia in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region has been operating since 2022 and provides comprehensive assistance in the development and strengthening of relations between Namibia and Russia.
